At least 64 civilians were killed in a police operation against the Red Command gang in Rio de Janeiro's north zone - the largest and deadliest raid in the region's records.

Four police officers were included in the fatalities during the police action in the communities of Alemão and Penha, government representatives stated. In excess of 80 individuals were taken into custody.
