Air travel have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a substantial air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.

All aircraft movements were halted due to an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers reported being stuck in jets at the stand during the disruption.

Operations Restart with Continued Disruption

A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

That said, significant disruption are expected to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with many others subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be disrupted.

"Travelers are urged to get in touch with their carrier for the latest information on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an systems failure with its air traffic control provider.

Flyers are still being urged to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the airport as backlogs are worked through.
