Shock as Beloved South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country struggling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was gunned down in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old media personality was approached by a trio of assailants, with one opened fire on him before running away.
The reason of the attack remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, as per the official statement.
The Fatal Incident
Police indicated that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a building near the Carlton Centre.
He had spent several hours at the site overseeing the installation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by squatters, as per local media.
"The report indicates the man was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," authorities stated.
Security camera video showed a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what looked like a security uniform opening fire on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ sought to escape after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries across the street.
Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the incident.
Important clues, like spent shells, were recovered from the crime scene.
Appeal for Witnesses
Authorities have requested eyewitnesses who may have have information to come forward.
"Our information indicates they traveled on foot after the shooting, and police have been tracking them to establish their location," stated a police chief.

His sister, a close relative, stated the relatives are devastated to come to terms with the loss.
"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a champion for numerous individuals. He addressed issues courageously about issues not many people were prepared to tackle. This is a tremendous loss."
