The network's Top New Show of This Year Gets a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this endearing family navigate their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
