The Showrunner Shares He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed program reaching its finale—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It's like being an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Does the showrunner See the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering the writers are not listening by public opinion, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We have some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
